Lookout
Dog Car Seats & the Perch
Often on our web
pages we say a certain Lookout is appropriate for pets up to
xxxx weight. This gives a quick snapshot of what might be the
sizes to consider, and those to avoid. But Weight is always a
guess-timate; for best results -- Measure!!!!

Console Lookouts are for folks who want their very small dog to be right
beside them on the Console of their car. They come in a Small and
a Large size, and for the Highback version, two Large sizes.
They require you to measure for two
factors: the size of your pet, and the size of your
console. You have to measure both factors and then compare to the
size of your pet and the sizes of console Lookouts. More
specific advice is below, regarding comparing for the size of your
pet. Just remember that for Console Lookouts you must measure
not only your pet, but also your console to be sure our product fits
your vehicle's console.
2. Small & Medium Lookouts, (both fit any standard bucket
front seat, and will also go in a back seat full bench) and the Large
(Buddy) Lookout (which fits only in your back
seat.) are the more typical choices.
Bear in mind that the Lookouts
were designed and made for dogs sitting up. However, we find that most
customers want their pets to also be able to lie down. SO, right
off the bat we are going to say to most customers -- consider
Medium (Oversized) Lookouts and/or the Perch
but first follow the advice below and then return to the dogcarseats
page to decide and order. And remember:
The Perfect Size is not always possible. Don't let the
perfect be the enemy of the good.
If you want to be sure your
pet can lie down in a particular Lookout, take a piece of newspaper or
butcher paper and cut it to the interior dimensions of each Lookout. The
interior dimensions of the Lookouts are given
Here. Place your
pet on each piece of paper and have it lie down. That gives you a visual
representation of how your dog will fit lying down in each of the
Lookouts.
Remember that for Console Lookouts you must also measure
your console to be sure our product fits your vehicle's console.
This takes some work, but it is better to take this time now,
than to buy the wrong size and bear the expense and trouble of
returning the product.
If none of the Lookouts work for you, it can be that there is no
solution to the situation you have.
However, the
Perch
Booster Seat, which can be seen
Here,
in Half Bench and Full Bench sizes, will work for 90% of the cases
where the Lookouts will not work. The Perch is for bigger "small" dogs
and boosts them about 7". It is large enough in the Half Bench size for
dogs up to 35-40lbs, and in the Full Bench for dogs up to 70lbs - 80lbs. |
Dog Pillows
Round, Rectangular, Square,
Corner Pillows,
Pet Sofas, other Pet Beds
Always measure your pet and compare
to the dimensions of the product you are buying. Why order and then bear the
expense of sending the bed back if it is not the right size? Measure
first!!!!! Also, if in doubt, better to get
the larger size, than the smaller. If the bed you get is too
small, then it is always and
forever too small, and will never do. Too big may be too big but
it will do better than too small, which won't do at all.
Measure your pet lying down as it is normally accustomed to
lying.
- Measure from nose or front legs,
to back legs or rump; as a general rule & add
9" to 12."
- Remember that most beds draw up 2"
to 3" from their advertised dimensions when they are filled.
-
For some type beds, where curling up
is obviously the way the pet would sleep (Nest beds, Cozy Caves, Lookout dog car seats, for
example) you may not need to add the extra inches. You will have to
be the judge.
- Pick the size of the bed that will
best fit those measurements, remembering that round bed
measurements are in diameter (width across the circle).
- To get a very visual idea of how
the bed will work, cut a piece of butcher paper to the bed's
dimensions, place your pet on it lying down.
It may seem like a lot
of work, and it is. But why order and then bear the
expense of sending the bed back if it is not the right size? Measure
and compare before buying.
And understand:
The Perfect Size is not always possible. Don't let the
perfect be the enemy of the good.

Pet Air Carriers, Pet Totes,
Pet Bike Seats, Pet Pockets,
On each page where we
sell a product, including the above, we usually have advice on how
to determine the size to get, but it almost always involves
(and it should always mean) measuring your pet and comparing his
measurements to those of the product.
Cutting paper to fit a
pillow or inside measurements of a Lookout is not too difficult, it
can be a little harder for a bike seat or a pet tote, but it works
wonders for getting the right size and visualizing your pet in a
product. A
little paper, some scissors, and measuring tape -- that's all you
need to make sure a product fits your pet or vice versa.
