FAA AND AIRLINE PET CARRIER REQUIREMENTS
Which of our Pet Carriers/Totes/Bags/Wheeled Carriers meet Airline (or FAA) Requirements for Carry-On Baggage for Pets?
MOST DO. See below, and also see Air Transport Assoc Information
FAA REQUIREMENTS FOR CARRY-ON AIRLINE BAGGAGE ARE CLEAR AND RATHER BROAD: The carry-on bag/carrier may not measure more than 45 LINEAR INCHES. LINEAR IS MEASURED BY : WIDTH, PLUS DEPTH, PLUS HEIGHT. There are other requirements. See this FAA web site: www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_pets/cabin_pets/
Most of our pet totes, pet pockets, wheeled roll arounds, messenger bag, dog totes, etc. meet those linear requirements.
THEN THERE ARE INDIVIDUAL AIRLINE REQUIREMENTS. Some airlines allow you to take pets into the cabin, others do not; and each, where it does allow pets in the cabin, has its own rules in terms of the bags/carriers/totes allowed.
How do I find out if an airline allows pets to travel in the passenger cabin and what their policies and procedures are? You can call the airlines’ reservations line and get information from the agent who takes your call. The answer you get will often vary according to the agent you speak to, and the day you call. You can bet on that. You can also look at an airline’s website to get information about their policies for traveling with pets. The main thing you need to tell the agent is that your carrier does meet FAA requirements for carry-on baggage (assuming that is the case).
These are typical rules from the FAA website www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_pets/cabin_pets/ :
* Your pet container must be small enough to fit underneath the seat without blocking any person’s path to the main aisle of the airplane.
* Your pet container must be stowed properly before the last passenger entry door to the airplane is closed in order for the airplane to leave the gate.
* Your pet container must remain properly stowed the entire time the airplane is moving on the airport surface, and for take off and landing.
* You must follow flight attendant instructions regarding the proper stowage of your pet container.
Remember to also visit the Air Transport Assoc page.
Call your Airline, describe your carrier and ask for help. Bear in mind that, unfortunately, each helper you might call may give you a different answer. We do know that our Snoozer small and medium sized roll around and our deluxe wheeled carrier are widely accepted by most airlines that allow pets in the cabin, and generally, should be no problem. That is not a promise. It is what it says: widely accepted.
