How to Transport Your Pet by Air
The most complete information on APHIS, FAA and airline
requirements is at the website of the
Air Transport Association (ATA).
Most airline Web sites will provide detailed information on
pet transportation policies, SEE links below.
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)
of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) sets
regulations for the transportation of live animals. These regulations apply
to customers and their pets, as well as to the airlines. The FAA also has
a role in regulating pet travel.
There are a number of ways to transport
your pet by air: small pets may often travel in the cabin with you in a carry-on carrier,
others as
accompanied baggage, or as live animal cargo. See the
Air Transport Association
(ATA) website for very thorough and detailed information.
